Unfortunately they are :/
I suggest you go here to see a list of cruelty-free makeup companies ^^

Most cosmetics that you can get in high-street pharmacists are tested on animals. The reason they are cheaper than upmarket brands like NARS, MAC and Chanel products is because they are mass-produced using formulas which are widely tested on animals.
Higher-priced brands such as the ones mentioned above are dermatologically tested rather than tested on animals, and they are also of a much higher quality, using better ingredients. If your girlfriend is worried about animal testing methods, then it is best for her to 'splash out' on some of these more expensive makeups, because not only are they kinder to the environment, but are much higher quality and a little goes a long way.
As for cheaper makeup, the only way to know if it isn't tested on animals is to look at the label, where it will be clearly stated.
MAC are sponsors of PETA, the animal charity, so you can be sure their makeup is animal-friendly. :)My girlfriend wants to know if rimmel and maybelline cosmetics are tested on animals?
Yes, and also lots of companies that say they dont test on animals have ingredients in their products that have been tested on animals- just not by them. Meaning that the actual products they make i.e. lotion, lipstick, foundation, whatever, hasnt been tested on animals but the ingredients they include in the products have been at one time. So watch out.
I dont know why i am getting so many down arrows?! What i said is perfectly true. Here is a website, a few paragraphs down it even says what im trying to say. If you want good cosmetics there are a few good vegan lines as someone said, which do products that are 100% natural :) Maybe she can have a shop around on the net?
I don't think they do. Here is a list of companies that test their products on animals (Maybelline and Rimmel are not on here)

i dont believe they are, because they are sold in superdrug, and superdrug dont stop items tested on animals, but if it has a lil bunny on the wrapper that means its animal friendly..
